Allergy & Sinus

We offer comprehensive evaluation and treatment options for pediatric and adult allergy, nasal and sinus disease. We provide in office allergy testing and treatment, including oral allergy drops (Sublingual Immunotherapy) which we have provided since 2007. In some situations, we can even provide allergy testing for children under sedation, alleviating the anxiety associated with this process.

If medical treatment does not improve your nasal congestion and stuffiness, our doctors can offer in office procedures that can take as little as 20 minutes to help you breathe easier. We also provide comprehensive sinus care for children and adults ranging from Balloon Sinuplasty to image guided endoscopic sinus procedures.

Our doctors provide our patients with the latest  in sinus care and have performed hundreds of Balloon Sinuplasty  procedures in the Lake Norman area since 2008.

Allergy Testing & Allergy Therapy

We offer comprehensive allergy testing and management options for children and adults. We provide both allergy shots (subcutaneous immunotherapy) and allergy drops and we can tailor treatment to meet your needs. Allergy drops (sublingual immunotherapy therapy) are an allergy treatment option that is painless and does not involve needles! They are placed under the tongue in the comfort of your own home. Ask our doctors about this effective allergy therapy that they have been providing since 2007!

Audiology

Lake Norman Ears, Nose and Throat provides comprehensive diagnostic audiology services, including hearing evaluations and balance testing, and hearing aid sales and services.  Our audiologists strive for clinical excellence and superior customer service.

What is an audiologist?

An audiologist is the professional who specializes in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating people with hearing loss and balance disorders.  Our audiologists are doctoral level professionals who perform comprehensive examinations of the auditory and vestibular systems, and work with our patients to determine the most appropriate interventions as needed.

What services are available?

Diagnostic hearing evaluations may include traditional hearing testing, evaluations of speech perception and understanding, immittance testing, otoacoustic emissions, and auditory brainstem response.  Balance testing/vestibular evaluations include videonystagmography (VNG) and vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMPs).  Hearing aid services include consultations, fittings, programming of other devices, cleanings, real ear verification, counseling, and other follow-up care.  We also fit custom hearing protection and other in-ear devices, including swim plugs and musicians monitors.

How long does it take to get an appointment?

We are usually able to schedule patients within a week as long as you are flexible with your availability.  Vestibular evaluations may have a longer wait.

What should I expect at my appointment?

It depends on the type of appointment you have.  If you are coming in to see one of our ENT physicians  and have your hearing tested, you will typically see the physician first and then meet with one of our audiologists who will determine what testing is appropriate for your specific concerns and proceed from there.  Patients who are having a vestibular evaluation should plan to spend about two hours with one of our audiologists having a battery of tests performed.  Hearing aid consultations last about an hour, and you and an audiologist will go over your hearing loss and then discuss any insurance coverage you may have, your lifestyle, expectations, and other needs to determine if hearing aids or other intervention is right for you.  Other hearing aid related appointments, which may include fittings, programming, verification, cleaning, repairs, counseling, and/or ear molds, are different depending on your goals and needs.  Our main goal is always to provide you with a patient-centered experience consisting of a high degree of clinical expertise partnered with superior customer service.

How much are hearing aids?

Hearing aids range in price depending on the level of technology of the device, any accessories you may need, and the services required in fitting the device, as well as the follow-up care needed.  We discuss this in detail during a consultation if it is determined that hearing aids are right for you.

Are hearing aids covered by my insurance?

We call and verify any insurance benefits you may have prior to your consultation so that our audiologists can discuss your options with you.  We are in-network with most insurance plans.

I bought my hearing aids somewhere else.  Can I schedule with one of your audiologists to check them?

Yes, you can!  We are happy to service hearing aids purchased from other offices.  You will be responsible for an office visit fee based on the services provided.

What brands of hearing aids do you sell?

We can work with all major hearing aid brands.  These include, but are not limited to, Widex, Starkey, Phonak, Unitron, Siemens, GN Resound, and Oticon.  We may not be able to work with private label brands.  Our audiologists work with our patients to determine which hearing aid is most appropriate for your individual needs.

Balloon Sinuplasty

Our doctors have performed hundreds of Balloon Sinuplasty cases since 2008. This procedure can be used to treat a variety of sinus related issues in the appropriate patient population. Let our doctors talk to you about whether this procedure is right for you.

Cosmetic Services

There is a non-surgical way to improve the look of your moderate to severe frown lines – without changing your whole face!

Piedmont HealthCare – Lake Norman Ears, Nose & Throat providers Keith Meetze, MD, Thomas Warren, MD, Herb Wettreich, MD, and Fred New Jr., APRN, BC, are pleased to offer Dysport® injections. Dysport® is a prescription injection for temporary improvement in the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows in women and men between the ages of 21-65. The treatment takes about 15-20 minutes and is done in our office. The results can vary, but typically last up to 4 months.

What is Dysport®

Administered through five quick injections between and over the eyebrows, Dysport® contains abobotulinumtoxinA  which acts to block contractions of the muscles that cause the “frown lines” between the eyes. This FDA approved injectable has been used for over 10 years in 34 countries.

Schedule a Consultation

If you are interested in Dysport® treatment, please call to schedule an appointment to talk to one of our physicians about the aesthetic benefits and possible side effects.

During your consultation, we will ask you about any medical conditions you may have and any medications you take, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins and herbal and other natural products. Using Dysport® with certain other medicines may cause serious side effects.

Please let us know if you have received any other botulinum toxin product in the last four months, have received injections of botulinum toxin, such as Myobloc®, Botox®, or Xeomin® in the past (be sure your doctor knows exactly which product you received), have recently received an antibiotic by injection, take muscle relaxants, take an allergy or cold medicine or take a sleep medicine.

Common Side Effects

The most common side effects are nose and throat irritation, headache, injection site pain, injection site skin reaction, upper respiratory tract infection, eyelid swelling, eyelid drooping, sinus inflammation and nausea.

Dysport® may not be right for those who have had the following: surgical changes to the face, very weak muscles in the treatment area, droopy or sagging eyelids, deep facial scars, thick oily skin, or if your wrinkles can’t be smoothed by spreading them apart.

You should wait 90 days between Dysport treatments.

For a complete overview of Dysport® and safety considerations, please visit www.DysportUSA.com.

Ear Infections & Disease

We treat a variety of ear diseases and infections. From swimmers ear, to hearing loss to chronic middle infections requiring tubes, our doctors can help your ears feel better.

Ear Tubes

Ear tubes are sometimes needed for persistent middle ear fluid or recurrent middle ear infections. Making a decision to have this procedure performed on your child can be difficult for parents. Our doctors can help answer your questions so that you feel comfortable about indications for this procedure, how it is performed and if it is the right procedure for your loved one.

General ENT

Otolaryngologists ( ENT’s) are specialists trained in the diagnosis, medical care and surgical management of disorders of the following areas: ears, sinuses, larynx (voice box),  mouth, throat, neck and face. Examples of commonly treated problems include: hearing loss, ear infections, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), vertigo, dizziness, sinusitis, allergies, nasal congestion, deviated septum, hoarseness, reflux, swallowing disorders, tonsillitis, sleep apnea, snoring, thyroid tumors, salivary gland disorders and tumors, skin lesions and skin cancers.

Hearing Loss / Hearing Aid Services

Have you ever said “I can hear, but I can’t understand,” or “I hear fine in quiet, but not in background noise?” Hearing loss of varying degrees affects millions of Americans from infancy through late adulthood. Our doctoral level audiologists are available to help in the diagnosis and treatment of your hearing loss. That treatment may or may not include the use of hearing aids or other amplification devices. We offer hearing aid services when applicable, including hearing aid consultations, fittings, programming, verification, cleanings, and counseling. We are able to work with all major manufacturers’ devices, and can work with hearing aids purchased through other offices.

Please take a moment to watch some of our informative videos to learn more about hearing loss and options for treatment.

Nasal Obstruction

Our doctors can evaluate and pinpoint your source of nasal obstruction. Nasal sprays and allergy therapy are often used to treat a clogged nose. When this is not enough, we can determine if you need correction of a deviated septum or enlarged turbinates. Often nasal obstruction can be corrected with an in office turbinate procedure in less than 20 minutes!

Pediatric ENT

A large portion of the patients in our ENT practice are children. We take into account that children require unique care as they are still growing and are not just small adults. We have a pediatric waiting area and exam rooms to help children feel comfortable and relieve their anxiety about coming to the doctor. Commonly treated conditions in children include tonsillitis, tonsil and adenoid enlargement, sinusitis, nasal congestion, allergies, ear infections and hearing loss.

Sinusitis & Sinus Surgery

Our doctors work to get your sinuses improved with maximum medical therapy. When medicine will not get you better any more, our doctors can assess your sinuses and help you determine if sinus surgery is right for you. We offer outpatient endoscopic sinus surgery and image guided procedure to help you get well.

Skin Cancer & Reconstruction

Our board certified physicians offer treatment and removal of facial and neck skin lesions and skin cancers in one of our in office procedure suites. We provide the latest in plastic reconstructive techniques for those patients who require it. We also have the ability to have skin cancers analyzed by a pathologist to ensure your cancer is completely removed. This is done on the same day so your skin cancer can be removed in confidence and reconstructed all at the same visit.  For less aggressive skin cancers and pre-cancerous lesions, we have an in office laser which can quickly remove  them without the need for incisions and sutures.

Snoring & Sleep Apnea

We offer complete evaluation and management for sleep apnea and snoring. We can assess blockage and obstruction and order sleep studies to evaluate sleep disorders. We offer intracapsular tonsillectomy for children suffering from sleep apnea which greatly reduces post- operative pain, down time and bleeding risks.

Thyroid Surgery

We provide evaluation and surgical care for thyroid disease, nodules and thyroid cancer. Our doctors can offer outpatient/same day surgery for the majority of our patients. We also provide intraoperative nerve monitoring to ensure your best voice outcome!

Tonsil & Adenoid Surgery

We treat children and adults for tonsil and adenoid infections or enlargement causing obstruction. We also offer intracapsular tonsillectomy (a.k.a. tonsillotomy) for some patients with tonsil enlargement leading to airway obstruction or apnea. This procedure reduces pain, recovery time and bleeding risks often seen with traditional tonsillectomy.

Vertigo & Dizziness

We know how debilitating vertigo can be and our team of doctors and audiologists can help diagnose and treat your balance disorders. From audiometric testing to in-office balance system testing (VNG) and vertigo treatment, our team can help you get back on your feet!

I came here after another ENT wanted to do surgery on my 3-year old for a simple wax impaction. Dr. Meetze was very patient and gentle with her and gave me several options that don’t include surgery or sedation. I’m very pleased with how he treated me and my daughter and the ease of getting an appointment there means I’ll stick with Dr. Meetze from now on.

– Amanda L.

I will and have given referrals for this practice. Great Doctors and thank you for all that you guys do!

– Mike B.

Dr. Meetze saved my life in 2010 when he discovered thyroid cancer and two subsequent surgeries – I am now cancer free and most grateful for him and the staff. I am blessed to know all of you.

– Shirl W.

Doctor’s here are always very pleasant and thorough. Did a great job with my surgery and I don’t even have a scar!
